Creative Engagements, Swords

Creative Engagements As part of an initiative called Creative Engagements, a number of trainees from the Prosper Fingal Training Service in Swords created a stunning Mosaic with Transition Year students from Fingal Community College. The trainees involved were Rebecca McGonagle,  Eoin Donohue, Billy Kane, Hannah Doherty and Philip McCormack. Everyone involved had creative input and designed specific sections of the Mosaic that represents well-known Swords landmarks. It took weeks to complete as each person was tasked with sticking hundreds of tiny coloured tiles to produce a wonderfully vivid piece. This was a truly collaborative project and the social interactions that developed between Prosper Fingal trainees and Fingal Community College were just as important as the art that was created. It is one of many projects between these two Swords neighbours. The Mosaic was unveiled at the Transition Year Graduation at the school on Wednesday and Billy and Hannah were delighted to represent the group at the ceremony. It is hoped that the Mosaic will be displayed in a prominent outdoor location on Swords Main...

‘Making a Difference’ St. Joseph’s, Rush

‘Making a Difference’ St. Joseph’s, Rush The recipient of the Making a Difference award at St. Joseph’s is described as a student who makes a difference in so many ways without even realising he’s doing it, and yet does it in abundance. David Kelly’s presence in the school became very clear when, as a core member of the Prosper Fingal class in 2017, he brought humour, commitment and kindness to the group, and unquestionably left his mark on the service users. During that year his commitment to the school’s SVP Christmas Hampers was nothing short of inspiring. Devoting himself to hours upon hours of volunteer work he brought something special and unique to everything he undertook. Not only did his actions lead to making a difference to all those who received the hampers, but his presence did the same to the group who had the pleasure of being in his company. David is described by his teachers as being unassuming in nature, a genuinely nice young man and a born leader in every sense of the word. He loves a good problem or disaster, as he thrives on coming up with solutions. The principal remembers David shoveling snow to clear the pathways around the school during the snow of 2018 as simply one of his stand out moments. He has left his mark on the school and his community in ways that are impossible to describe. Congratulations to David and to all at St. Joseph’s School, Rush....

‘Making a Difference’ Fingal Community College

‘Making a Difference’ Fingal Community College The students at Fingal Community College really embraced the idea of Making a Difference in their community and the winning group this year ran a hugely successful “Silver Surfers “ tech course in their school. The programme, which ran in conjunction with Age Action Ireland, involved 20 TY students and over the course of 15 weeks they welcomed older citizens to the school each Friday afternoon and taught them to use PC’s, iPads, smartphones and all things IT. By all accounts the course was very popular, successful and beneficial to all involved. This programme really embodies what Making a Difference is all about and Prosper are so proud to support such a fantastic initiative. Well done to all involved!...

‘Making a Difference’ Ardgillan College

‘Making a Difference’ Ardgillan Community College The latest school to join the Prosper Fingal “Making a Difference” awards is Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan. This year’s winners in Ardgillan are Keelin Tapley, Emily Cathcart, Belbin Benny and Stefan Simonovic. They were also the Prosper Fingal Ambassadors. They set up an initiative named Headstrong to help combat the stigma surrounding mental health within their school and the wider community. They set up their own Instagram page and worked tirelessly to promote the message of positive mental health openness for all. The incoming TY Ambassadors for 2019/2020 have already been chosen and, in conjunction with Prosper Balbriggan, have already decided on an art project they will do with Service Users every Friday afternoon in their own free time. We look forward to this positive initiative and wish the participants every success....
