Brave new goal!

Brave new goal! Shannon Moss and William O’Brien, from our North Street Service, recently achieved their goal of visiting Edinburgh on their own.  They planned, saved, booked, and finally made their way to Dublin airport on September 7th to enjoy two fun filled nights in the Scottish city. They stayed in Jurys Inn in the heart of the city and visited all the main tourist attractions. Shannon provided a few words to sum up their trip. “From going to the airport myself, deciding what to do and when we would do it by ourselves, the whole thing was fab, never thought I would have the freedom or be able to travel myself. It’s magic!”  Shannon and William are already planning their next adventure using their new...

Cycling Workshop – Malahide Castle

Cycling Workshop - Malahide Castle As part of National Bike Week (www.bikeweek.ie), we linked in with Fingal County Council at an event that took place in Malahide Castle today, Monday 24th June.  The event was put on by the Road Safety Department at Fingal County Council and was run by the Irish Centre for Cycling. Trainees from The Mall and some Service Users from Seatown Road took part in a cycling workshop.  There were specialised instructors there to give tips and guidance to cyclists of all standards. For those who were less confident on two wheels, the Irish Centre for Cycling provided Surrey Pedal Cars.  These allowed groups to pedal and steer on four wheels and had a the benefit of a small canopy to ward off the rain! As you can see from the photos below, the day went really well.  This event was a little different to other things we have tried and the enjoyment and participation levels were great....

5Km Fun Run

5km Fun Run - 21st June The Seatown Road Event Planning group, who were ably supported by Saoirse Kavanagh, organised a 5km Fun Run in ALSAA on Friday 22nd June.  This fundraiser was carefully planned over the last 4-6 weeks and everything went very smoothly on the day.  They even organised beautiful sunshine for the day! It is tradition at Seatown Road to run this annual fun run and the charity is selected by the group that organise the event.  In the past we have donated to Special Olympics Ireland, Down Syndrome Ireland, Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Temple Street Children’s Hospital.  We have always valued the opportunity for the people we support to be seen as contributors to charitable causes, not as the recipients of same. This year’s worthy cause is the Peter McVerry Trust who do such great work with those affected by homelessness. There were over 50 participants from Seatown Road and The Mall   They didn’t let us down when it came to raising money and we are delighted to say that €2,972 was raised. We had quite a few parents turn up as cheerleaders too. Please see some photos below that we hope give you a flavour of the day and how well it...
